MISSISSIPPI HEART TRUTH EVENTS

Chances are, you've been hearing a lot of information lately on women and heart disease. That's because The Heart Truth campaign is working with partners to spread the word that heart disease is a women's issue. Over the next year, we will be holding special events to focus attention on this important issue. Learn more about some of the events below.

Ocean Springs - Ocean
Springs Hospital, Education Center. Women's heart health exhibits will be
open from 6:30 p.m. till 7:30 p.m. An SRHS cardiologist will give a special
presenation devoted especially to women's heart disease risk factors beginning
at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration

Feb. 15
Pascagoula - Singing
River Hospital, J.F. Turner Heart Center. Women's heart health exhibits
will be open from 6:30 p.m. till 7:30 p.m. An SRHS cardiologist will give a

beginning at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration

Feb. 23
Picayune - Crosby
Memorial Hospital will be sponsoring a symposium featuring Guest Speakers
Dr. Ahmad Haidar and Dr. Anthony Morales. Topics will be sleep-related heart
disease and hypertension. The event will be held from 5 PM till 7 PM. Refreshments
and Door Prizes will be given. This is a community event held at CMH free of

Mississippi Medical Center. The seminar will be held from 2-4 p.m. in Leadership
Hall at Central Mississippi Medical Center, which is located at 1850 Chadwick
Drive in Jackson.

Hattiesburg - Wesley
Medical Center, Taking care of your Heart will be the focus of Wesley
Medical Center's Forever Young services program on March 1 at 10:30 am until
11:30 am in the Wellness center Aerobics room. All area seniors are invited
to attend this free program. Speaker Nora Dagg, Respiratory Therapist, will
address Exercise After Surgery and participants will have the opportunity
to participate in an interactive chair aerobics demonstration, led by Alan Carlson,
Exercise Physiologist. Refreshments will be served and each attendee will receive
a pass for one free workout at Wesley's wellness center. For more information

McComb - Southwest Mississippi
Regional Medical Center, Take Heart--A life-changing Approach to Heart
Health for Women, a live satellite broadcast, 8 pm. The hospital is video
taping this event to hand out free to interested women's groups, civic groups

Oxford - How does your HeartScore? Baptist
Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi will offer HeartScore - coronary calcium
scoring - for $99 during the month of February. The screening, which normally
costs $169, involves a heart CT scan that take a series of cross-sectional images
of the heart. The scan detects small amounts of calcium in the coronary arteries.
The amount and density of calcium are calculated to determine the patient's
calcium score or "HeartScore." A doctor's order is not required for the screening.
Appointments may be made by calling (662) 513-1699. Payment must be received
prior to the screening.

Pascagoula - Singing
River Hospital System’s Heart Advantage program will be offering cholesterol,
diabetes and blood pressure screenings from 7-9 a.m. at Singing River Hospital.
There will be a $20 fee for the screening and a 12-hour fast is required. Appointments

McComb - Grand Opening of the Cardiovascular Institute of Mississippi

Magee - Magge General Hospital will host Dr. Patricia Lawson as the speaker for this HeartTruth presentation.

Hattiesburg - A Red Dress display will be set up in Forrest
General's front lobby, courtesy of McRae's Department Store.
Natchez - Natchez Community Hospital will host their Women's Heart Truth Seminar from noon to 1 p.m. at the Natchez Convention Center. Dr. Vikram Dulam, a cardiologist, will talk to women about heart disease. There will also be free heart screenings. Lunch will be provided (chicken salad, fruit and dessert from Mammy's Cupboard) free of charge, but reservations are required. Call Kay Ketchings to make your reservations today. Regional Medical Center is sponsoring a mini Health Fair. Cholesterol screenings

out at this event.
